The usual failure of the original gear is a missing tooth which throws the carriage out of whack and may damage further parts.
A service manual is required for this repair. The gear MUST be installed AND TIMED/PHASED with the rest of the loading mechanism or serious damage may occur. This is not a part for a novice to install. It is HIGHLY recommended that the Cassette Insertion and ‘Cassette Down’ leaf switches are cleaned and the un-thread sensor spring (located on the pivoting SUPPLY end sensor) be checked following gear replacement and PRIOR to power-up.
