Do you still have (old) negatives?

These often dust away in a drawer somewhere, preventing you from sharing your valuable memories with the rest of the family. Negatives are also subject to loss of quality.

By having these negatives digitized, you immediately create a safe backup of these precious memories. You can also easily share the digital images via email or social media with family, friends and/or acquaintances. In addition, you can make a beautiful new (digital) photo book with these digital images.

We can professionally scan your negatives for you.

Negatives on strip/roll – 35mm (24×36mm) and semi-35mm (18x24mm)

We can scan negative strips (about 5 or 6 negatives on a strip) and negatives on a roll. We can even scan negatives that have been cut from a strip or roll. All photos will be corrected for colour, light, dust and scratches. The infra red correction of dust and scratches doesn’t work as well with black and white photos as it does with colour photos. Dust will always be removed by fine brushes.

The negatives are converted to digital (positive) photos. You can give every series of negatives a title and we will use this for the folders. We scan to JPEG format and all pictures are given a serial number as a filename.

The price is per photos and all photos on a strip (with at least 2 photos) will be scanned. If you only want to have aspecific negative on a strip scanned, or if you have a strip with only one photo, we ask a surcharge of € 0,39 per photo.

File formats

We can supply just about all common formats. We normally use JPEG format. This gives a very good quality while the files don’t get too large. We can also provide the photos in an uncompressed file. TIFF is a common format for this. This format is often used in professional printing. However, this format creates much larger files: with a small image slide scan at 4000 DPI, a TIFF file is about 70 MB in size.

Technique

We use professional scanners. For 35mm slides and negatives we use the Nikon Coolscan 5000ED. The slides and negatives scanners have a true optical resolution of 4000 DPI. Using the Digital ICE4 Advanced automatic correction function, scratches, damages and fingerprints are automatically removed from slides and negatives. Our scanners are the best tested in many independent tests.

Frequently Asked Questions – Digitize Negatives

Could I request a sample scan?

Yes, that is possible. You can request your free sample scan here.

When copying large files I get an error message

The problem when a large video file cannot be copied is usually that the file system of the hard disk or USB stick is still in FAT32 format. Files larger than 4GB cannot be stored on a FAT32 volume. Formatting the flash drive in the exFAT or NTFS file system will solve this problem.

You can find more information about this:

How can I quickly view my negatives as positive images?
