A “split reel” is a film reel in two halves that, when assembled, contain a specific length of film wound on a plastic core.
Using a split reel allows film to be shipped or processed in a lighter and smaller form than film on a “fixed” reel.
Split reels are separable film reels that can be opened to clamp the film wound around the split reel between 2 plates so that the film does not fall off when rewinding or projecting. The term “split reels” has become a thing of the past, although modern split reels are no longer “plugged in” but screwed in. I.e. the reels are opened by twisting the side parts clockwise apart. The center portion of the spool contains threads that allow opening or dividing the spool.

Pay attention! The nylon screw connection can be damaged if overtightened. Should that happen, this nylon part can be ordered additionally (PP-0310)
